The best 3D will only come from real 3D channels, 3D Blu-rays, and the PS3. Some 3DTVs have a '2D Conversion' fteuare that claims to be able to convert anything to 3D. I have heard people getting ok results using a very low 3D setting for a subtle effect.The point of the new 3DTVs is that they use a 3D technology superior to the types of 3D that any other tv could display. The most common type of 3D old tvs could display was called anaglyph. That was the kind with red/blue glasses(some use different colors, but the principle is the same) This type of 3D only needed a color tv to work, but it distorted the natural colors of the picture and had very bad ghosting' side effects. Ghosting is when the image for one eye is allowed to reach the other eye, and causes you to see a faint outline around the image(like a ghost). Thin plastic colored lenses don't always sufficiently filter the correct image to the correct eye and that's what causes ghosting.Now, the new 3DTVs use glasses that are much better(but still not perfect). They are called active-shutter' glasses. They are electronic and have lcd shutters in them. The glasses darken the lcd over one eye preventing as much light from entering as possible, while the tv displays the image for the other eye. The tv and the glasses alternate between eyes so fast that your brain combines them into a complete 3D picture. This has to happen very fast, which is why a special 3DTV is needed along with the additional hardware that help the glasses and tv communicate.
